MATCH REPORTS – WEEK 9
Performance of the week goes to Division 2 side Conwy who al but wrapped up the league title with back to back wins over their two closest rivals. They now need only one point from their final game. On Monday night they beat Bryn-Y-Neuadd by 8 wickets after bowling the hospital side out for only 58. The following night they had an equally comfortable 7 wicket victory over an under strength Eirias HS side, restricting them to 99-6. Shaun Davies performed well in both matches with bat and ball; he took 3-5 on Monday and hit 47 against Eirias. Well done Conwy.
The other game in Division 2 saw another tie this week between Penrhyn Arms and Rhos Fynach Taverners. The Arms batted first and a fine 51 no from Paul Anderson steered them to a respectable total of 99-7; Paul Williams taking 2-12 for the home side. The Fynach openers started well and were well ahead of the rate at the loss of the first wicket on 57. However some tight mid innings bowling and good fielding by The Arms put the brakes on and Fynach found themselves needing 8 off the last over bowled by Arms captain John Barrett. A second ball 4 seemed to have done the job 2 dot balls meant that the home side could only score 3 runs off the last 2 balls. An exciting end to a great game!
In Division 1, champions Llandudno had a week off and Llandrillo College moved into second spot with a comfortable 43 run win over a youthful Pen-Y-Bryn side. College batsmen Asif Iqbal and Wasim Ali both passed 50 and helped their team post an impressive 176-3. The school side got off to a dreadful start and found themselves 4-11 before steady middle order partnerships help them reach a respectable 133-7; Rob Dixon top scoring with 52. The remaining game saw bottom club record a fine 7 wicket win over Rydal Penrhos. The school side batted first and posted 100-6 with Harrison Holmes 40 and 12 year old Jack Sissons making his league debut hitting 19. The Rwsters were never in trouble and a good knock from Bryn Jenkins 34 saw them comfortably home.
In Division 3 Denbigh CC recorded two maximum points home wins this week which sent them flying up the table. Their first game against Abergele saw them post 127-8 before skittling out the visitors for a lowly 27. The next game against leaders Lex XI was just as convincing with a 75 run victory. Again batting first Denbigh made 130-7 before bowling out Lex XI for just 52. Conwy Celts and Colwyn Bay Rugby club also recorded good wins this week which now sees them share top spot in the division. Celts had a narrow 6 run victory over Fugro Robertsons. Batting first Conwy posted 125-5 with Dave Wilkinson 41 top scoring; in reply Robertsons fell just short on 119-8 with Chirs Jones taking 3-22.
