COLWYN BAY & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE
(Founded 1965)
WEEK 11: Monday 9th - Wednesday 11th July 2007
Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry's failure to raise a team for their Division 3 match with Caerhun gifted their opponents a 5-0 win which leaves them only a point away from an immediate return to the Second Division. Colwyn Bay Rugby Club's 5 wicket victory over 10 man Bryn Y Neuadd looks certain to cement their position in Division 2 for next season. In a low scoring match at Brackley Avenue, Bryn Y Neuadd were all out for 67 runs from the final ball of their 15 overs - 18 extras being their top score! Good bowling by Robbie Hughes, taking 3 wickets for 15runs, helped keep a lid on BYN scoring. Ian Morris (20) top-scored for the Rugby Club in their reply but good bowling by Joe Carribine (3-20) and Nathan Hales (1-12) made the home team work hard for their 3 wicket victory with only 2 balls to spare.
Ysgol Pen Y Bryn went top of the First Division as they aim to claim the title for only the second time in their history. Llanrwst CC batted first and posted a score of 110-6 thanks to a half-century (51retired) by Alwyn Williams. Richie Lewis (2-21) and Darren Dentith (2-23) were once again the pick of the Pen Y Bryn bowlers. Dave Williams (25) and Derek Klazinga (33) put the title chasers on the brink of victory but both were dismissed in quick succession to leave PYB needing 9 runs off the final over. Youngster Kieron McMillan promptly claimed a wicket before successive boundaries by Tony Earley put his team 2 points clear at the top of the table.
Lex XI secured their place in a third successive Tom Barlow Cup Final with a 5 wicket win over Conwy Celts in their quarter final tie. James Wigzell (33) and Luke Regan (16n.o) top-scoring for the Division 2 team. Lex progress to the final as St. David's College have withdrawn from the cup due to their on-going protest with the League.
Llandrillo College's disappointing season continued as they were knocked out of the Robertson Cup by Second Division leaders Mochdre CC. The College scored 97-5 from their 15 overs thanks to Wasim Ali (27n.o), Aamer Sarder (25) and Anwar Awan (23) but opening batsmen Adam Campion (49n.o) and Russ Boswell (39n.o) led Mochdre to a 10 wicket victory and line up a home semi-final against either Ysgol Pen Y Bryn or Abergele CC.
