COLWYN BAY & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE
(Founded 1965)
WEEK 6: Monday 4th - Thursday 7th June 2007
League Secretary Darren Dentith's 4 wicket haul (4-24) at Llanrwst helped set up Ysgol Pen Y Bryn's 8 wicket win that keeps them on top of Division 1. Llanrwst's young team batted first scoring 84-9 (Trefor Williams 27), Richie Lewis claiming 3-14 in his 4 over spell. Rowan Rosenthal (43)and Chris Spillane (27n.o) then guided Pen Y Bryn to victory of 10.4overs. Rhos Fynach Taverners temporarily went top when Rydal Penrhos forfeited their match as they could not raise a team for the second time this season. However, Rydal Penrhos did play their match against Llandrillo College in a game that went to the final over between two evenly matched teams. The College batted first and Neil Roberts (52ret) top-scored in their total of 115-5. Rydal Penrhos only just kept up with the required run rate but Colwyn Bay first teamers Sion Morris (51ret) and Huw G. Roberts (28n.o) managed to ensure that Rydal won by 8 wickets, the winning runs coming off the penultimate ball.
The Division 2 derby match between Mochdre CC and Mochdre Colts saw over 300 runs scored with Phil Dickson's 54(retired) the highlight of Mochdre's 177-4. James Hawley (43) and John Parry (41retired hurt) led the Mochdre Colts reply but fine bowling by Alistair Paterson (4-25) helped restrict the Colts to 129-6 ensuring that Mochdre CC remain top with a 48 run win. Colwyn Bay Rugby Club travelled to Bethesda searching for a second league win of the season but Bryn Y Neuadd had other ideas! Excellent bowling by Joe Carribine (3-1) and Steve Meek (2-4) bowled out the visitors for a meagre 22 runs, Colin Curran's 12 easily the Rugby Club's top score. Bryn Y Neuadd needed only 4 overs to pass their total, Dilwyn Roberts' unbeaten 22 keeping his team within 3 points of Mochdre CC. Matthew Chinnery (34) led Lex XI to a 9 wicket victory in their basement battle with Robertsons to claim their first win of the season.
Caerhun maintained their promotion push with a 7 wicket win over Division 3 new boys Penrhyn Arms. Former Colwyn Bay Police star Paul Anderson (42) top scored for Penrhyn Arms as they reached 100-9. Steve Jones (31n.o) and Rich Totton (28) ensured Caerhun remain top as they scored 104-3. Tight bowling by J.Longmore (3-16) and A.Gale (3-9) kept Conwy Colts on the heels of the league leaders with a 6 wicket win over Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry. St. David's College and Conwy Celts played out a remarkable tie in the remaining third division match but have yet to send in details of their match.
