COLWYN BAY & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE
(Founded 1965)
WEEK 7: Monday 11th - Wednesday 13th June 2007
Phil Dickson's second half-century of the season helped Mochdre CC to a total of 152-7 in their Second Division match against Colwyn Bay Rugby Club this week, Robbie Hughes trying valiantly (3-31) to restrict the visitors fast scoring. In reply, Tom Blackwell struck 45 runs but the Rugby Club fell 40 runs short of their target as Mochdre's win keeps them top of Division 2 and favourites for promotion. Bryn Y Neuadd's 43 run victory over bottom placed Robertsons kept them within 3 points of the leaders. Abdul Waheed (50ret), Stephen Meek (24) and Peter Williams (20 no) helped Bryn Y Neuadd to a run-a-ball 120-7 before accurate bowling from Waheed (2- 9) and Joe Carribine (2-17) restricted Robertsons to 77-9. Mochdre Colts remain in third place thanks to a narrow 3 run defeat of Lex XI. Batting first Mochdre Colts hit 130-4 with contributions from Wes Jones (29), James Hawley (29) and John Parry (28n.o). Equally solid batting displays by Charlie Owen (30), Trevor Taylor (22n.o) and Carl Wedge (20) saw Lex creep near their required total but excellent bowling by James Hawley (2-4) in the 113th and 15th overs saw the Colts scrape home.
In Division 3, Paul Anderson (53ret) became the first Penrhyn Arms player to reach a half-century in their first league season but good batting by St. David's pair S.Charlesworth (35n.o) and M.Brown (35) ensured a 6 wicket victory for the College team. Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry's match against Conwy Celts was the only victim of the weather this week meaning both teams have unfortunately lost 3 games apiece to rain. Caerhun maintained their push for promotion with a 4 points to 1 win over nearest rivals Conwy Colts.
2006 Division 1 runners up Llandrillo College were once again involved in another closely fought match this week as they played Abergele CC in search if their first win of the season. Wasim Ali (56ret) and Asif Iqbal (37) helped Llandrillo to 126-5 from their allocated overs before Selwyn Morris (39n.o) ensured Abergele victory with two balls remaining as he supported Tom Gibson-Jones' 40 runs off 28 balls. Rydal Penrhos replaced Ysgol Pen Y Bryn at the top of the table thanks to a 9 wicket victory over Llanrwst CC.
